Vasudeva Priya Mani Iyer was born on 4 June 1984 in Palakkad, Kerala. She is a Tamil Iyer and her parents Vasudeva and Latha. Priyamani is a psychology student and spent most of his teenage years in Bangalore.

Priyamani met with success, because all the original versions, Kangalal Kaidhu Sei, EVAR Atagaadu and Satyam failed.
Things brightened with the release Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam (2005). While she was honored as an actress, the film evoked lukewarm response. In 2006, she bore Pellaina Kothalo hit with her co-star Jagapathi Babu. The film told the story of a couple of newlyweds.
Paaruthi Veeran (2006) was a critical success and earned her an Indian National Award, Filmfare award and Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress. She has churned out many hits like Yamadonga (2007) and Thirakkatha (2008).
