Vidya was born in the Tamil-speaking Balan family on a January 1978 in Palghat, Kerala, India. Her family consists of her father, PR Balan, as Vice President of ETC channel, mom - a home-maker, and older sister, Priya, who is married to Kedar. It also has an aunt named Raji Raju.
